Of All The Things To Worry About

Dear Baby Expert,

I hope you can help me! My son is 17 months old and all he wants to eat are vegetables! He's in the 5th percentile for his weight and we've been trying to "fatten him up!" The problem is, he only wants to eat healthy food! Last night I tried to feed him ice cream but he reached into his mouth, took it out and threw it on the floor! All he wanted to eat was edamame! The doctor says not to worry but I'm worried! Help!!!

Have a Donut, Pittsburgh.

agatha was 7% at one point and loved vegetables. we did a bunch of stuff:

--avacado! in fact, i'm not too proud to admit i melted butter in avacado routinely. avacado is high fat by itself though

--extra calories in the milk. make sure you're on whole milk only and consider adding something like polycose to everything he drinks.

--butter/butter/butter. add butter to every vegetable you give him. butter in the corn. butter in the edamame. butter über alles!

--make *sure* you have whole fat everything. whole fat yoghurt, whole fat cream cheese, etc.

those really helped us.

Thanks for the tips, Mr. Todd! One of the things I've gotten Donny to eat is Spatzle with butter and parmesan cheese. Also, the avacado is almost always a winner. I'm going to try the adding-stuff-to-the-milk thing because we can always count on him downing a bottle or two. Stay tuned for the results...
